Alan is an experienced and successful Hospital IT Director with a track record of delivery in large acute Trusts in the health sector. He has had a long career in NHS informatics and delivery of successful Electronic Patient Records (EPR) systems in large hospitals. In the 1990’s as Director of Informatics at Wirral Hospital Alan led one of the most successful EPR implementations at that time. That was followed up with similar success at Salford Royal Teaching Hospital, a Trust that has a long standing reputation for the quality of their information systems to support the current agenda.
Both Wirral and Salford are in the top 5 most digitally mature Trusts in England, and their current position is largely due to the impact Alan had on the Trusts when he was there as Informatics Director. Both started their journey to excellence under his stewardship.
Experience in the hospital sector was followed by a strategic role across the NHS, firstly for Cumbria and Lancashire, and then for the whole of the North West as Chief Information Officer at NHS Northwest.
